Human Pets,  Uncategorized

So you want to be a Human Pet?

First we need to know what a Human Pet is and what the term means.

The term Human Pet is often used as an umbrella label for those who participate in Pet Play (as a pet) whether they roleplay as kittens, puppies, ponies, cows etc.

But

Human Pet also refers to a pet player who does not roleplay a specific animal

This sounds kind of odd and what really helped my understanding of this was when I came across the terms

Non Transformative and transformational pet play

For the life of me I cannot remember where I found these terms, but they made such a difference to my understanding of pet play and my own style of BDSM

So, what do they mean?

Transformative pet play

Pet play in which you roleplay a species other than your own. You become a kitten, pony, puppy etc. for your scene and revert back to your human self afterwards.

Non transformative pet play

Is when you participate in pet play activities as a human. You become ‘less than’ because you are in the position of a pet but you don’t “transform” into something other than yourself

So like with most differences in kink the difference between human pets and other pet players are found in the players inner experience of the play and the negotiated intentions behind the actions of both the pet and D- type.

Why do people enjoy being a Human Pet?

People enjoy being a human pet for many of the same reasons people enjoy pet play or animal roleplay

So, if you haven’t already, this would be a great time to check out my previous posts;

Why do people enjoy Animal Roleplay?

Part 1 – Kink and BDSM

 and

And Part 2 – Psychology

Some other reasons people prefer to identify as a human pet specifically are;

They simply don’t identify with another animal species.

Human pets can have more flexibility in their behaviors, training and service.

For example some find providing service (sexual and non sexual) clicks better in their brain as a human pet rather than when in a transformative pet space.

The humiliation and dehumanization kinks that play well with pet play take on a different flavor when you still see yourself as human…

Human, but less than

A human who is choosing this.

You are choosing to crawl.

You are choosing to whine and beg for pats.

You are choosing to eat from a bowl off the floor.

You are choosing to submit to this level.

Why?

Because you like it, because somewhere in that depraved little brain you want to.

Ahem, moving on!

Gear for Human Pets

Gear for human pets is very similar to gear used in transformative pet play

with a few tweaks of course, to maintain just enough of the pets human-ness to make it hot.

Collars – Collars are a classic in both BDSM and pet play communities. Human pets will often (not always) steer more towards O-ring/slave-esque collars rather than the classic leather dog collars.

Leashes – again are another classic in both pet play and the wider BDSM community. Leashes can be a physical symbol of the pets status, they are also a functional way to enforce movement restrictions or protocols, they’re also really fun to pull your sub around and be rough.

Gags – Gags are useful in enforcing speech restrictions. Depending on the gag used they can also add an aspect of humiliation or degradation, for example o-ring or spider gags often stop someone from being able to swallow their saliva that means they drool quite a bit- which you can then tease your pet about later on

Bondage – Whether your preferred method is latex, rope, cuffs or something else i haven’t seen yet! Bondage is a great method to enforce movement restrictions on your human pet.

Ears & Tails – Despite popular belief human pets or non transformative pets can wear ears/tails too – if they want to,

Usually they are more for aesthetic purposes rather than assisting someone into a headspace.

I, for one, like to wear my ears/tail outside of transformative pet play scenes because

a. I like how it looks,

b. It reminds me of my place without indicating that i am in a dynamic with another

Protocols and Rules in Human Pet Play

Some protocols and rules i have seen used for human pets are;

Movement restrictions – such as when on carpeted surfaces you must crawl.

Another example is that human pets must ‘heel’ when moving around with their D-type meaning they must stay one step behind and to the Left/Right of their D-type at all times.

Other movement restrictions can include doors, for example, the pet may only go through doors that are already open or doors that can be opened without the use of their hands.

Speech restrictions – this can range from no vocalizations what-so-ever, only being aloud to make animal noises such as whining/purring/barking/growling or to only being able to speak key phrases.

Rules around food – Some human pets have rules meaning that they can only eat out of bowls or from a ‘humans’ hand during scenes.
